Files and folders
A file is one document, photo, spreadsheet or program. A folder (directory) is a named box that holds files and other folders. Give folders clear names such as Bills-2026, not New-folder (3). File extensions (.pdf, .xlsx, .jpg) hint at the program that opens them. Never rename a file extension unless you know what you are doing.
Internet and networking fundamentals
A network lets computers share data. A home Wi-Fi router is a small network. The internet is many networks joined together. A URL is the address you type in a browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox). Wi-Fi is wireless access to that network. You do not need to configure servers to use a browser safely.
Cyber safety on a shared PC
Use a strong unique password. Do not share OTPs. Log out of email and banking on a CSC or café PC. Prefer https in the address bar. Treat unexpected “Your PC is blocked” pop-ups as scams. Sharda LMS never asks you to paste production database passwords into the coding lab.
